At Stoddard Road Laundromat, we provide the best quality self-service laundry in Auckland. Our testimonials prove it! However, for customers who may not have used our services before – or, in fact, the services of any self-service laundromat in New Zealand or beyond – mastering the self-service laundry process may prove a challenge, particularly because technology is involved.
Read below for our handy, step-by-step guide on everything from selecting a machine to completing the drying cycle and folding your laundered clothes!
1. Select the Right Machine
The first thing you need to do is select the right machine for your load of laundry. At the laundromat, there will be differently-sized washing machines to suit your load size. Choose the machine that you won’t overload, and make sure the machine’s drum is free of stray clothing or debris!
After you’ve chosen the right machine, you can either pay to use it via cash or card.
2. Load the Washer
Once you’ve paid to use the right washing machine, separate your clothes into their colour and fabric types. This prevents damage to your clothing, even if you have colour catcher sheets! Load your clothes into the washer once separated and add detergent into the designated compartment of the machine.
3. Start the Wash Cycle
Now, you have to choose the appropriate wash cycle for the type of load you’ve placed into the washer.
Options generally vary by water temperature and cycle length, but don’t feel overwhelmed – your clothes should have a recommended wash cycle written on their labels. Once you’ve followed this recommendation, press the button to start the washer machine and let it run through the wash cycle.
4. Transfer to the Dryer
After your clothes have been washed, they need to be dried! Transfer them to the dryer – Stoddard Road Laundromat has many, and so should other self-service laundromats worth their salt! Like the washing machines, dryers come in different sizes, and you should select one compatible with your load size.
You should also set a drying time that meets your requirements. For example, denim jeans may need a longer drying time than silk pyjamas. Don’t forget to pay by cash or card to use the dryer, either.
5. Fold and Finish
To avoid the creasing of your laundered clothes, remove them from the dryer as soon as the drying cycle is complete. Most self-service laundromats will also provide tables where customers can fold their clothing to keep them neat and wrinkle-free. Once you’ve folded, you’ll simply need to pack up your clothes and head home – you’ve totally mastered the self-service laundry process!
